106LD-3 Dual Channel Pulse Former and Line Driver PCB

The 106LD-3 Dual Channel Pulse Former and Line Driver printed circuit board (PCB) is a simple and reliable line driver circuit using the 4538 dual precision monostable multivibrator integrated circuit as a pulse shaper, and the HA-5002 buffer integrated circuit (replaces the hybrid LH0002) as a line driver.  One input produces negative pulses and the other input positive pulses output to the logging line.  Pulse width setting resistors R1 and R2 are turret terminal mounted for ease of selection or change on a fastened board.  Pulse height balancing resistors R3 and R4 are also easily selected or changed on their turret terminal mounts, as is output resistor R5 (required for simultaneous cement bond logging).  The 106LD-3 can be used as a single channel line driver by simply installing a jumper (JP1 or JP2) at the unneeded input (optional if R7 and/or R8 are installed).  A zero-ohm jumper is then installed at the appropriate R3 or R4 position (or JP5 or JP6 can be jumpered) producing a maximum amplitude pulse output for the selected polarity, or pulse height can be controlled with an appropriate single resistor installed at R3 or R4 (the 106LD-5 is usually a better choice for single channel applications).  The 106LD-3 is bond kill ready for use with the 106BK-2 (or the appropriate pulse output from the UBK-4).  The 106LD-3 PCB is jumper configurable to be compatible with either armor / chassis negative or armor / chassis positive line power.  The two integrated circuits are ordinarily mounted in high quality machine pin sockets, but can be mounted directly to the PCB if low clearance is required.  This design requires only a single 10-15 volt power supply to operate (no second higher voltage supply is required as with many line driver circuits).  The 106LD-3 PCB measures 0.8 inches wide and mounts on three (3) inch centers.  The 106LVPS-3n PCB is designed for one inch diameter tools and is only 0.6 inches wide and mounts on four (4) inch centers (see the 106LD-3n schematic and the 106LD-3 schematic for other minor differences between the 106LD-3 and 106LD-3n PCBs).

The 106LD-3 Dual Channel Pulse Former and Line Driver PCB is part of the 106 Radiation Tool PCB family.  106 Radiation Tool PCBs can be used to upgrade or repair tools, or an entire electronics section can be assembled from scratch using several PCBs (as in reworking an old tube / Nuvistor tool).  All 106 Tool PCBs use readily obtainable components, which parts will continue to be available for many years to come, and all use convenient turret terminals for wire connections. We prefer through-hole components for PCBs designed to survive high temperature, but selected components may be surface mount (SMT), or have provisions for either through-hole or SMT where price and/or availability is an issue.  Due to time constraints on maintaining this website, the PCB illustrated below may not be the most recent revision of the board and / or circuit.
